What it costs to open a laser and skin clinic in Australia

Aesthetic clinics carry two very different price tags: the machines, and the medical-grade fitout around them. Australian buying guides publish both. Here they are together.

The machines

Machine tierPriceFinanced, per week
Entry professional IPL / diode laser$15,000 to $25,000$75 to $125
Mid multi-treatment platform (Nd:YAG, fractional)$40,000 to $70,000$200 to $345
Premium multi-platform (GentleMax class)$80,000 to $160,000 plus$395 to $795
Hydrodermabrasion (brand-name systems)$38,000 to $60,000 imported$190 to $300
Microdermabrasion (salon grade)$500 to $3,000bundled

Quality used machines are a real market: GentleMax-class platforms with full service history have listed around $55,000. Budget for running costs too, handpieces, servicing and calibration run $5,000 to $20,000 a year on premium platforms, and the sub-$10,000 imported machines advertised online are a different product class from TGA-compliant medical-grade equipment; clinics get caught by that gap at insurance time, not purchase time.

The fitout

Cosmetic and laser clinic fitouts run $2,500 to $4,500 per square metre, roughly $250,000 to $450,000 for a 100 square metre clinic before equipment: treatment-room plumbing, compliant electrical for high-draw machines, and approvals are what separate this from a beauty salon fitout at $1,800 to $3,500 per metre.

Our estimate for a complete two-room laser clinic, fitout plus one to two medical-grade machines: roughly $310,000 to $650,000 before working capital. That is assembled from the published component ranges above rather than a single published figure. Financed over five years, the low end runs about $1540 a week.

Financing it

Machines write on chattel mortgage, new or quality used, and the fitout wraps into the facility. Property-backed borrowers generally price around 6% to 9% p.a. and non-property-backed deals around 9% to 13%, with approvals commonly back in 24 to 48 hours. Run a machine quote through the repayment calculator, or start at medical equipment finance.

The sub-$10,000 imports are a different product class from TGA-compliant medical-grade machines. The gap shows up in treatment outcomes, insurance and resale, not in the sales brochure.
