What a tipper truck costs in Australia in 2026

Ventas Asset Lending  |  Reviewed by Caleb Morehu  |  Updated 25 September 2026

A new single-axle light tipper (Isuzu NPR, Hino 300, Fuso Canter) costs about $80,000 to $130,000 drive away in Australia in 2026. A new bogie-drive tipper (Isuzu FVZ, Hino 700, UD Quon) runs $245,000 to $315,000, and a Kenworth truck and dog combination $385,000 plus. Used five to eight year old light tippers list at $55,000 to $85,000, ex GST.

$275,000 to $315,540new 6x4 bogie-drive tipper, 10 to 11 m3 body

$14,500 to $52,800tipper body only, mild steel to Hardox with tow hitch

A tipper is two purchases in one, the cab chassis and the body bolted to it, and the body is where quotes drift apart. A Fuso Canter 815 with a factory tipper is $82,490 ex government charges; a 2025 Isuzu FVZ 260-300 with an 11 cubic metre Hardox body and ROPS is $299,900 drive away. Both are ordinary dealer listings. Drive configuration, body material, brand and kilometres set the price. This page puts the September 2026 numbers side by side by class, prices the body on its own, shows what a five to eight year old truck holds, and works each figure out as a weekly repayment.

Tipper truck prices by class in 2026

Indicative bands from Australian dealer, marketplace and auction listings surveyed in September 2026, plus the June 2026 IndustrySearch tipper cost guide. New prices are as the dealer quoted them; used prices are ex GST asking prices. Weekly figures assume a 5 year chattel mortgage at 10.5% p.a. with no deposit and no balloon, near $4.96 a week per $1,000 borrowed. Your rate depends on your profile and security, not the truck.

The jump from a car-licence NLR to a bogie-drive FVZ is about three and a half times the money for about five times the payload, which is why owner drivers on civil work end up in the 6x4 class. The used truck and dog market is wide: a 2011 Volvo FM 500 with a Graham Lusty quad dog cleared Pickles at $76,930 while a 2011 Volvo tipper and dog in South Australia asks $199,500 including GST. Kilometres, body condition and the dog's registration explain most of that gap.

The Grays result is the floor. A one-year-old Hino 300 with 5,639 km cleared for about $38,800 all-in with the 9% buyer's premium, against $97,500 drive away new. That is the price of no warranty and a seven-day settlement, and why a pre-approval before the auction closes matters more than a good bid.

What a tipper body costs on its own

If you are buying a cab chassis and fitting a body, or replacing a tired body on a truck you already own, price the body separately. Australian body builders and marketplaces surveyed in September 2026 give this spread:

BodySpecPriceWhere
ZD mild steel tipper body, unpainted3 mm sides, 5 mm floor, body onlyfrom $14,500 plus GSTTradeTrucks listing
Steel tipper body, unpainted5 mm sides and floor, pressed 5 mm top rails, body onlyfrom $17,500 plus GSTTradeTrucks listing
Used steel tipper body, Penrith NSW4.6 m x 2.5 m, underbody hoist, 2-way tailgate, slight damage$16,500OnlyTrucks
Gorski Hardox steel bodybody only / small tipper complete / with tow connection$35,779 / $49,484 / $52,800 inc GSTGorski price list
Gorski aluminium bodybin and tarp only / with tow connection$43,368 / $58,587 inc GSTGorski price list
Gorski twin steer or tri drive bodyHardox / aluminium$69,095 to $84,806 inc GSTGorski price list

The cheap end is a bare mild steel bin with no hoist, tarp or paint; add a front-mount hoist, two-way tailgate, roll-over tarp and paint and a budget body lands closer to $30,000 fitted. The Gorski numbers are the other end: Hardox wear plate, a dog-rated tow connection, LED lighting and an engineered sub-frame. On a bogie drive the body is 15% to 20% of the drive away price, which is why a 2020 T410 SAR with a new Gorski Hardox body at $199,000 is a sharper buy than it looks. Alloy saves tare and costs about $6,000 more than Hardox from the same builder ($58,587 against $52,800 with a tow connection).

What moves the price

Drive configuration is the biggest step. Going from a 4x2 to a 6x4 bogie drive roughly triples the money: $92,500 for a new NPR 175 tipper against $299,000 for a new FVZ 260-300. IndustrySearch puts driven front wheels (4x4 or 6x6) at another $30,000 to $60,000 on top.

Licence class. The 4.5 t GVM class (Isuzu NLR, Hino 300 616, Canter 815) drives on a car licence and is the cheapest tipper to buy and insure at $79,999 to $99,000 new. A 6.5 to 9 t GVM NPR or NQR needs an MR licence and costs $92,500 to $128,990 new, for roughly double the payload.

Brand tier. Isuzu, Hino, Fuso and UD sit within a few thousand dollars of each other at the same GVM. Kenworth is a different market: a 2021 T410 at $280,000 to $305,000 is priced on its 70 t GCM rating and the fact that it will pull a quad dog for 15 years. Lenders read the badge the same way and write longer terms on a Kenworth than on an import of the same age. The Kenworth prices guide covers the bonneted range.

Kilometres. Two 2019 NPR 75-190 tippers on Trucksales: one at 94,750 km asks $84,490, the other at 130,584 km asks $58,000. On heavy trucks the spread is wider: a 2018 Volvo FM540 at 435,765 km asks $275,000 and the same model year at 914,000 km asks $155,000. Ask for the odometer and the service book before you ask for the price.

Body, tarp and hitch. An 11 m3 Hardox body with ROPS, retractable tarp and dual-action tailgate on the Major Motors FVZ is $299,900 drive away; the bare R46 tipper is $299,000 ex government charges and a custom spec is $315,540. A dog-rated tow connection adds about $3,000 to $3,500 on a Gorski body. For the loader and excavator that fill the tipper, see the civil equipment cost guide.

What a five to eight year old tipper holds

Light Japanese tippers hold better than most people expect. A 2018 Hino 300 716 factory tipper at $55,900 is about 57% of the $97,500 a new 716 Tipper Pro lists for, eight years on. A 2019 Isuzu NPR 75-190 at $58,000 to $84,490 is 55% to 80% of the $105,000 a low-kilometre 2018 asks, depending almost entirely on kilometres. A 2021 NPR factory tipper at $59,990 is about 65% of a new NPR 175 tipper at $92,500.

Heavy tippers hold in dollars and fall in percent. A 2017 UD Quon CW 26-390 with an 11 m3 body at $181,591 plus GST is about 66% of a new $275,000 Hino 700 equivalent after nine years; a 2022 Quon at $219,000 is about 80% after four. A 2021 Kenworth T410 at $280,000 to $305,000 is close to what it cost new, because a dog-rated bonneted truck is priced on what it earns.

For tax, the ATO effective life for a tipper is 15 years; IndustrySearch works that out as roughly $16,000 of first-year depreciation on a $120,000 truck under diminishing value. Almost every new tipper is above the $20,000 instant asset write-off threshold that ran to 30 June 2026, so it is written down over the term. Your accountant will confirm what applies in the year you buy.

What it costs to run

The June 2026 IndustrySearch guide budgets $18,000 to $30,000 a year to run a mid-size tipper five days a week (registration, insurance, tyres, servicing and hoist hydraulics, before fuel and the driver) and puts the purchase price at only 30% to 50% of what the truck costs over its life. Against finance, a $92,500 NPR tipper is about $459 a week over five years at 10.5% with no balloon, a $299,000 FVZ about $1,483 a week, and a $385,000 truck and dog about $1,910 a week, or about $1,410 over seven years. Most owner drivers on civil subcontract rates cover the bogie-drive repayment inside the first two days of the week, which is the maths that moves people from a hired truck to a financed one. The owner operator truck finance guide covers the ABN, contract and deposit side.

Financing a tipper truck purchase

Tippers are written as chattel mortgages over three to seven years: you own the truck from settlement, the lender registers its interest on the PPSR and releases it when the loan is paid out, and the GST comes back on your next BAS. Cab chassis and body are financed as one asset when invoiced together; if the chassis comes from a dealer and the body from a builder, lenders will usually fund both invoices at the same settlement. As a working rule, property-backed borrowers price around 6% to 9% p.a. and non-property-backed deals around 9% to 13%, subject to lender assessment. Approvals on established ABNs commonly come back in 24 to 48 hours.

Lenders fund new, used, dealer, private and auction purchases. A private sale adds an inspection and a few days. Auction purchases need a pre-approval before you bid, because the buyer's premium (9% on the Grays Hino above) and GST are added to the hammer price and settlement is due within days. Trucks over about ten years old, or past 800,000 km on a bogie drive, usually mean a shorter term or a deposit. A dog trailer can go on the same contract as the truck or on its own.

To get a number, tell Ventas the truck (make, model, year, GVM, km), the body spec, the price, the seller, your ABN age, whether you have work lined up, and whether you own property. Read more on the truck finance page, run your own figures on the truck finance calculator, or compare structures under equipment finance.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a tipper truck cost in Australia?

In 2026 a new single-axle light tipper (Isuzu NLR, NPR, Hino 300, Fuso Canter) lists at $79,999 to $128,990 drive away. A new bogie-drive 6x4 tipper with a 10 to 11 cubic metre body (Isuzu FVZ, Hino 700) is $244,500 to $315,540. A late-model Kenworth truck and dog is $385,000 plus GST.

How much is a used Isuzu NPR tipper?

Trucksales listings in September 2026 show a 2021 NPR 75-190 factory tipper at $59,990, a 2019 NPR 75-190 at $58,000 with 130,584 km or $84,490 with 94,750 km, and a low-kilometre 2018 at $105,000, all ex GST. Kilometres move the price more than the year does.

How much does a tipper body cost separately?

A bare mild steel body with no hoist starts at $14,500 plus GST and a 5 mm steel body from $17,500 plus GST. A Gorski Hardox body is $35,779 body only, $49,484 as a complete small tipper and $52,800 with a dog tow connection, including GST. Alloy runs $43,368 to $58,587 from the same builder.

What does a truck and dog combination cost?

A 2018 Kenworth T610 SAR truck and dog lists at $385,000 plus GST and a Kenworth T900 with quad dog at $302,500 plus GST. Older combinations are far cheaper: a 2010 T408 SAR with quad dog is $154,000 including GST and a 2011 Volvo FM 500 with a Graham Lusty quad dog cleared Pickles at $76,930.

Can I finance a tipper bought at auction or privately?

Yes. Lenders fund dealer, private and auction purchases as chattel mortgages. A private sale adds an inspection and a few days. For auction, arrange the pre-approval before the sale closes, because the buyer's premium and GST are added to the hammer price and settlement is due within days.

How much does a tipper truck lose in value?

Dealer listings put a 2018 Hino 300 factory tipper at about 57% of new after eight years and a 2019 Isuzu NPR at 55% to 80% depending on kilometres. Heavy trucks hold in dollars: a 2017 UD Quon 11 cubic metre tipper still asks $181,591 plus GST. Auction is the floor, near 40% of new for a one-year-old Hino 300.
