Finance question
Can I finance a Massey Ferguson tractor for my farm?
Yes, often. Massey Ferguson is the second biggest tractor brand in Australia, so a lender can price the security, and a used machine from an auction or private seller can be funded through a broker. Lenders mark down machines that are old or carry very high hours, and some want an inspection report first, subject to lender assessment.

The short answer
A popular brand helps, but the machine and the seller still decide it
Massey Ferguson holds 15.4% of Australian tractor sales, behind John Deere on 19.2% and ahead of Kubota on 10.7% (2024 figures in our Massey Ferguson price guide). A large, liquid brand matters to a lender because the tractor is the security and has to be resold if things go wrong. Prices range widely: the guide lists a new 23 hp MF 1GC.23 at $24,750 ex GST and a 2025 MF 8730S with 560 hours at $350,000 ex GST, and the new 5S, 6S, 7S and 8S are price on application.
The maker advertises finance on its 7S, 8S and 9S ranges through AGCO Finance, but offers like these usually apply to new stock through a participating dealer. They do not cover the used machine you found at auction or from a private seller. That is where a broker is used: the tractor is the security, and the lender looks at age, hours, an inspection report and your deposit. A 2010 MF 7495 with 14,372 hours and a 2025 MF 8730S with 560 hours are both Massey Ferguson, and they are very different files.
Large new row crop machines need a bigger deposit or extra security, because the asset is worth more than most farm balance sheets can carry on equipment finance alone. A loan secured on farm property can cover the deposit or the whole purchase, with the risk that the property is on the line if the income does not arrive. Ventas is a broker across 40+ lenders, not a lender, and there is no upfront fee to you; the lender pays us on settlement.

Why a Massey Ferguson is a fundable machine
Second biggest brand
A deep dealer and auction market gives lenders a price to work from.
Used stock is fundable
Auction and private purchases can be funded through a broker.
Property can fill the gap
Equity can cover the deposit or the whole purchase.
A worked example
A grower buys a used 2017 MF 6714S with a loader and Trimble guidance at $90,000 ex GST. GST adds $9,000 and inspection and delivery $2,000, so $101,000 is needed at settlement. Equipment finance at 80 per cent of the ex GST price is $72,000. The remaining $29,000 covers the deposit, GST and costs, from cash, a trade-in or a loan secured on property. Illustrative only.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I finance a Massey Ferguson from an auction?
Often yes, through a broker, because the tractor is the security. Lenders look at age, hours, an inspection report and your deposit, and some will not fund an auction purchase without that report.
Does the maker's finance work on used Massey Ferguson tractors?
Usually not. Manufacturer offers generally cover new stock through participating dealers. A broker can fund a used machine from any seller.
Can I finance a new row crop tractor like the 8S or 9S?
Sometimes. Very large new tractors need a bigger deposit or extra security because the asset can be worth more than a farm can carry on equipment finance alone.
Does the 80 per cent advance in your example always apply?
No. It is the advance used in our guide's worked example. The real figure depends on the lender, the machine and your file, and a lender may ask for more deposit on older stock.
