What a Massey Ferguson tractor costs in Australia
Advertised Massey Ferguson tractors in Australia run from $24,750 ex GST for a new 23 hp sub compact to $66,000 drive away for a new 82 hp MF 4708. Used machines run from $45,000 ex GST for a 2010 MF 7495 to $350,000 ex GST for a 2025 MF 8730S. Massey Ferguson publishes no price list.
Massey Ferguson makes the second best selling tractor brand in Australia and sells everything from a 23 hp sub compact to a 425 hp row crop machine, so one price does not exist. A new 1GC.23 with a loader asks $24,750 ex GST. A 2025 MF 8730S with 560 hours asks $350,000 ex GST. Horsepower sets the first cut, then new or used, hours, transmission, cab, loader, guidance and whether the price includes GST. This guide sets out 10 live listings, what each series covers, what moves the price, how Massey Ferguson sits against John Deere and Kubota, and how a purchase is funded.
What Massey Ferguson tractors cost
This table surveys live listings on Machines4U and OnlyAg on 3 November 2026, across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. Figures are the seller's asking prices, indicative market data and not Ventas offers. Where a listing shows a field, we copy it. Where it does not, the table says so. The ex GST and inc GST pairs are as shown on Machines4U. We found no priced Massey Ferguson tractor listing in South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT or the Northern Territory.

Three things stand out. First, drive away, tax included and ex GST are not the same number, so convert before comparing. Second, the new mid-range and high horsepower tractors (MF 5S, 6S, 7S, 8S) appear as price on application (POA). Third, the cheapest machine per horsepower is the old big tractor: the 2010 MF 7495 asks about $246 a horsepower ex GST, against about $1,076 for the new 1GC.23 and about $805 for the new MF 4708 (our arithmetic, on the hp shown in each listing).
What each series covers
Massey Ferguson Australia's range page, accessed 3 November 2026, lists these series and power ranges. It publishes no prices. Anything you see for these series is a dealer quote.
| Series (Massey Ferguson Australia range page) | Power range shown | Price published? |
|---|---|---|
| MF 1GC, 1E, 1M, 1800 | 23 to 40 hp | No. Dealer packages only |
| MF 2E, 2M, 2700, 2800 | 45 to 60 hp | No |
| MF 3, 3700, 4700 | 74 to 120 hp | No |
| MF 5M, 5S | 95 to 145 hp | No. Machines4U shows MF 5S as POA |
| MF 6S | 135 to 180 hp | No. Machines4U shows MF 6S as POA |
| MF 7S | 145 to 210 hp | No. Machines4U shows MF 7S as POA |
| MF 8S, 8S Xtra, 8700 S | 205 to 370 hp | No. Machines4U shows MF 8S as POA |
| MF 9S | 285 to 425 hp | No |
The only published new price points we found for compact models are dealer packages. An end of financial year round-up in Farm Machinery Sales listed the MF 1GC.23 at $27,390, the MF 1835 E at $38,995 and the MF 2850 E at $50,490, each with a loader and bucket. The article does not say whether GST or freight is included, and the offers ran to 30 June 2026, so treat them as a guide to the shape of the range, not a current quote.
What moves the price
- Horsepower. The biggest driver. A 23 hp sub compact, an 82 hp utility tractor and a 260 hp class row crop machine sit in different price worlds.
- Transmission. Listings above show Dyna-6 and Dyna-VT (CVT) machines. A stepless transmission is a common option on the larger models and adds to the price new and used.
- Cab. The 5610 and 5710 listings both show an air-conditioned cab. An open-station tractor is cheaper, and the 4708 listing does not say.
- Loader. The 2017 MF 6714S includes a front end loader with a quick-hitch, 4-in-1 bucket and pallet forks. A loader can add real money to a used machine, and it is worth checking what comes with it.
- Guidance. The 6714S lists Trimble guidance and the 2020 8730S lists Topcon guidance with section and rate control. Cropping buyers pay for it, graziers often do not.
- Hours and age. The 2010 MF 7495 has 14,372 hours. The 2020 MF 5710 has 6,985. The 2025 8730S has 560.
- Price wording. Ex GST, inc GST, drive away and an auction buyer's premium can move the cost by 15 per cent or more. The 7495 listing adds a 5 per cent plus GST buyer's premium.
How hours and age move used values
The two MF 8730S listings are the cleanest pair we found. The 2020 machine with 2,045 hours asks $260,000 ex GST. The 2025 machine with 560 hours asks $350,000 ex GST. The older one asks 74 per cent of the newer one (our arithmetic), though the two are not identical in specification and both are asking prices, not sales. We do not have enough matched pairs to publish a depreciation curve, and we will not invent one.
The mid-range gives a rougher read. A 2019 MF 5610 with 5,810 hours, a cab and a loader asks $59,500 ex GST, and a 2020 MF 5710 with 6,985 hours and a cab asks $62,500. Hours above about 5,000 are normal on a working utility tractor, and the decision is usually about service history, the loader, the tyres and the transmission, not the number on the clock. Buy against an independent inspection and not only against the asking price.
How Massey Ferguson sits against John Deere and Kubota
On share, the Tractor and Machinery Association figures reported by Maquinac put John Deere at 19.2 per cent of Australian tractor sales in 2024, Massey Ferguson at 15.4 per cent and Kubota at 10.7 per cent. On price, none of the three publishes a full new tractor price list, so any comparison comes from dealer quotes and listings. Our John Deere prices guide and Kubota prices guide set out the working bands for those brands, and our tractor prices by horsepower guide shows 15 live listings across brands. Compare like for like: same horsepower, same cab and loader, same transmission and the same GST wording.
The market is soft. The TMA reported tractor sales down 12 per cent year to date to August 2026, with the 100 to 200 hp class down 13.0 per cent and 200 hp plus down 9.4 per cent. A soft market gives a buyer room to negotiate, particularly on dealer stock, but it does not change the need to compare quotes in the same terms.
Who buys these tractors
The compact range suits councils, landscapers and small acreage owners. The 4700, 5M and 5S suit graziers, hay producers and mixed farmers who want a cab and a loader. The 6S, 7S and 8S suit contractors, dairy and larger cropping operations. The 8700 S and 9S are row crop tractors for broadacre cropping, where guidance and drawbar power drive the choice.
Financing a Massey Ferguson tractor purchase
Tractors are one of the easier farm assets to fund. The machine is easy to identify, resells through a deep dealer and auction market, and Massey Ferguson is the second biggest brand in the country, so a lender can price the security. Appetite is not unlimited. Lenders mark down machines that are old or carry very high hours, and some will not fund an auction purchase without an inspection report. Very large new row crop tractors need a bigger deposit or extra security, because the asset is worth more than most farm balance sheets can carry on equipment finance alone. Ventas is a finance broker, not a lender, so we do not quote rates here. They change with the lender, the asset and the file.
Manufacturer offers are one pricing option. Massey Ferguson Australia's range page advertises finance from 1.99 per cent p.a. with no repayments until April 2027 on the 7S, 8S, 8S Xtra, 8700 S and 9S, and its finance page names AGCO Finance as the provider, with no term or deposit published. Offers like these usually apply to new stock through a participating dealer. They do not cover the used machine you found at auction or from a private seller. A broker can fund any machine from any seller, with terms and balloon options set by the lender.
Illustrative only, subject to lender assessment. A used 2017 MF 6714S with loader and guidance at the $90,000 ex GST price in the table above:
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Tractor price, ex GST | $90,000 |
| GST on the invoice | $9,000 |
| Independent inspection, delivery and registration of the loader and implements (assumed) | $2,000 |
| Total to fund at settlement, before any GST credit | $101,000 |
And how it is typically funded across lender types:
| Funding layer | Amount | What it covers | Secured on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Equipment finance | $72,000 | 80 per cent of the ex GST price | The tractor itself |
| Your funds, a trade-in or a property-backed loan | $29,000 | Deposit, GST, inspection and delivery | Cash, the trade-in, or your home or other property |
| Total | $101,000 |
Debt here is 80 per cent of the ex GST price. How GST is treated depends on your registration and the lender, so ask your accountant. A property-backed loan secured on a home or other property can cover the deposit or the whole purchase, because the lender relies on the property. The cost is that your property is at risk if the income does not arrive.
What makes a tractor deal fundable:
- The machine. A mainstream model with hours and age that suit the term, and an inspection report on used stock.
- The seller. A dealer invoice or a clear auction contract, with the serial number matching.
- Your trading history. Farm income that shows the repayments are covered, supported by tax returns and BAS.
- Deposit or security. Cash, a trade-in or property.
- Purpose. A tractor that earns, such as hay, cropping, contracting or grazing.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a new Massey Ferguson tractor cost in Australia?
Massey Ferguson publishes no price list. Live dealer listings show a new MF 1GC.23 at $24,750 ex GST, a new MF 1E.35 at $37,900 ex GST and a new MF 4708 at $66,000 drive away. The 5S, 6S, 7S and 8S are price on application, so ask a dealer for a written quote.
How much is a used Massey Ferguson tractor?
Listings we opened run from $45,000 ex GST for a 2010 MF 7495 with 14,372 hours to $59,500 ex GST for a 2019 MF 5610 with a loader, $90,000 ex GST for a 2017 MF 6714S, and $260,000 to $350,000 ex GST for MF 8730S row crop machines. Hours, loader and guidance move the price.
Does Massey Ferguson publish tractor prices in Australia?
No. The Massey Ferguson Australia range page lists series and power ranges, but no prices. The only price points are dealer listings and dealer packages. Price on application is common for the 5S, 6S, 7S and 8S, so expect to ask for a quote.
Is a Massey Ferguson cheaper than a John Deere?
There is no like for like price list to prove it. John Deere sells more tractors in Australia, 19.2 per cent against Massey Ferguson's 15.4 per cent in 2024. Compare quotes on the same horsepower, cab, loader, transmission and GST wording instead of relying on the badge.
Can I finance a used Massey Ferguson from an auction or private seller?
Often yes, through a broker, because the tractor is the security. Lenders look at age, hours, an inspection report and your deposit. Manufacturer rate offers usually cover new stock through dealers only. Finance is subject to lender assessment.
