What tractors cost in Australia, by horsepower

Ventas Asset Lending  |  Reviewed by Caleb Morehu  |  Updated 28 October 2026

Asking prices on 15 live Australian tractor listings run from $26,990 for a new 40 hp tractor to $719,203 ex GST for a 620 hp 4WD. Three new 102 to 130 hp cab tractors ask $96,500 to $99,990, and a used 140 hp Case IH asks $140,000. Hours, loader, brand and GST wording move the price.

A tractor has no single price. A new 100 hp Lovol cab tractor asks $54,990, a new 102 hp Landini cab with a front-end loader asks $99,990, and a used 120 hp Claas with 3,864 hours asks $110,000. Many makers publish no price at all. Horsepower sets the first cut, then come new or used, hours, cab, loader, brand and whether the price includes GST. This guide sets out 15 live listings across five states, price against horsepower, new against used, how to read the wording on a listing, and how the purchase is funded.

What tractors cost in Australia

This table surveys 15 listings on OnlyAg, an Australian farm machinery marketplace, on 22 October 2026, from a 23 hp Kubota to a 620 hp Versatile 4WD, across five states. The numbers in brackets are the ID in each OnlyAg page title. Figures are the seller's asking prices, indicative market data and not Ventas offers. The set has no listing from Tasmania, the ACT or the Northern Territory, and Queensland is over-represented because one large dealer, Black Truck and AG, has many listings. Hp is as shown on the listing, and PTO is power take-off. Where a listing shows no hp, the class is our grouping by model. For brand lists, see our John Deere and Kubota guides.

400 plusVersatile 620 4WD, Welshpool WA, Perth Power Tractors and Machinery (OnlyAg 6922)620New$719,203 egc (ex GST per seller)

Three things stand out. First, a 100 hp price depends on brand and fit-out: a new 100 hp Lovol cab tractor asks $54,990 (OnlyAg 2554) and a new 102 hp Landini cab with a loader asks $99,990. Second, large used tractors still ask serious money: a 2021 Fendt 927 with 3,630 hours asks $286,000 drive away (OnlyAg 5091), and the 2019 Optum 270 with 1,033 hours asks $308,000. Third, the New Holland T8.410 listing includes a receiver and an RTK radio (seller comment), so guidance kit is inside the number.

Price against horsepower

Horsepower is the one number every seller states, so it is the cleanest way to compare. One Victorian dealer, TannerTrack of Pakenham, lists a new Lovol range that shows the climb. Dollars per horsepower is our arithmetic, and it ignores the mixed GST wording.

New listing, same dealerHpAsking pricePer hp
Lovol M404 TE ROPS (OnlyAg 2536)40$26,990 inc GST$675
Lovol M1004 TD cabin (OnlyAg 2554)100$54,990 inc GST$550
Lovol M1504 TR cabin, no loader (OnlyAg 7269)150$92,990$620
Lovol M1804 TR cabin (OnlyAg 2558)180$125,990 inc GST$700
Lovol M2604 TN cabin (OnlyAg 7270)260$171,990$662

That is $550 to $700 a horsepower from one maker. Some new listings from other makers run higher: $805 for the 82 hp Massey Ferguson, $980 for the 102 hp Landini with a loader, and $1,160 for the 620 hp Versatile before GST. The used 140 hp Case IH asks $1,000 a horsepower.

The market behind the prices. The Tractor and Machinery Association of Australia (TMA) counted 9,521 new tractors sold in 2025, down 7.0% on 2024 and the lowest in a decade (reported by Maquinac). Farm Machinery Sales rounds it to about 10,000. In 2025 the 40 to 100 hp band held (+1.5%) while 100 to 200 hp fell 11.8% and 200 hp plus fell 15.6%. To August 2026, sales were down 12%, with 100 to 200 hp down 13.0% and 200 hp plus down 9.4%. TMA's bands are under 40, 40 to 100, 100 to 200 and over 200 hp. John Deere led 2024 sales with 19.2%, then Massey Ferguson with 15.4% and Kubota with 10.7%.

New or used: what the listings show

Three new 102 to 130 hp cab tractors sit in a tight band: $96,500 egc for a Landini Rex T3 110F (102 hp, stock 530170-BSE), $99,990 for the Landini Powerfarm 110 with a loader, and $99,990 inc GST for the 130 hp Lovol P5130. The same Queensland yard, Black Truck and AG, lists four used tractors in that size range:

Used listingHp shownHoursAsking price
New Holland T6.140, 2016 (OnlyAg 1522)1106,420$79,200 drive away
Claas Arion 430 (OnlyAg 6180)1203,864$110,000 drive away
Kubota M7-131 Deluxe (OnlyAg 5951)1283,142$110,000 drive away
Case IH Maxxum 140 with loader (OnlyAg 7212)140 engine3,963$140,000 drive away

Hours explain part of the spread, since the 2016 T6.140 has about twice the hours of the Kubota. Fit-out also matters: the Maxxum includes a Challenge front-end loader, third function and bucket (seller comment). A 2024 John Deere 5115M with 749 hours asks $90,000 plus GST, which is $99,000 with GST (our arithmetic), within $1,000 of the new Landini with a loader. Two used 93 to 95 hp tractors in NSW, a 2021 Kubota M5091 and a 2018 New Holland T4.95 with 3,798 hours, ask $49,000 drive away and $47,245 (the seller's comment says $42,950 plus GST). A 2020 Massey Ferguson 5710 with 6,985 hours, an ex-shire mowing tractor in Western Australia, asks $62,500 from a private seller, with hp not stated.

John Deere, Massey Ferguson and Kubota led 2024 sales, and lenders tend to be most comfortable with machines that have deep resale. That is a reason to price a used machine against its own make, hours and fit-out, not against a headline hp.

How to read the price on a listing

Prices on tractor listings use the seller's own wording, and GST alone is 10 per cent of the number.

WordingWhere we saw itWhat it means
Drive awayMF 4708, Landini Powerfarm 110, Maxxum 140The listings do not say what is included or whether GST is in. Ask for the invoice price.
egcOptum 270, Versatile 620, T8.410The pages do not define it. The Versatile and T8.410 seller comments say the price is ex GST. The Optum page says nothing, so ask.

Whether you can claim the GST back depends on your registration and how you use the tractor, so ask your accountant. Other items move the sticker price. The Lovol M1504 is priced without a loader but with front weights. The John Deere 5115M sits in Proserpine while the dealer is in Gulmarrad NSW, with freight quoted on request. Tyres, attachments and guidance kit can be extra, so list what is included before you compare.

Financing a tractor purchase

Tractors are normally funded with a chattel mortgage: you own the tractor from settlement, and the lender registers its interest on the PPSR and releases it when the loan is paid out. Terms, deposit and any balloon, a lump sum due at the end, vary by lender. Ventas is a finance broker, not a lender, so we do not quote rates here. They depend on the lender, the security and the file.

Lender appetite is uneven. Mainstream brands with deep resale are easier to fund. Lenders are more cautious on thin-resale brands, older or high-hour machines, private sales and auctions, new ABNs and borrowers with no property, and may want a deposit or a shorter term. A lifestyle-block tractor with no business use may fall under consumer credit rules. Maker and dealer offers usually cover new, in-stock machines on their own deposit and term.

Illustrative only, subject to lender assessment. A realistic purchase of a new 102 hp cab tractor with a loader:

ItemAmount
Tractor with front-end loader, drive away price (rounded)$100,000
Slasher and other attachments$12,000
First-year insurance$2,500
Lender, registration and legal costs$1,000
Total cash needed$115,500

And how it is typically funded:

Funding layerAmountWhat it coversSecured on
Equipment finance (chattel mortgage)$100,80090% of the tractor, loader and attachmentsThe tractor itself, registered on the PPSR
Your funds: savings or a property-backed loan$14,700Deposit, insurance and costsCash, or your home or other property
Total$115,500

Property owners may get more of the asset funded. A property-backed loan can cover the gap, at the cost of putting your property at risk.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a tractor cost in Australia?

On 15 live listings, asking prices run from $26,990 for a new 40 hp tractor to $719,203 ex GST for a new 620 hp 4WD. Three new 102 to 130 hp cab tractors ask $96,500 to $99,990, and used 110 to 140 hp tractors ask $79,200 to $140,000. Hours, loader and GST wording move the number.

How much does a new 100 hp tractor cost?

Three new 102 to 130 hp cab tractors ask $96,500 to $99,990, though one includes a front-end loader and the GST wording differs. A new 100 hp Lovol cab tractor with no loader asks $54,990 inc GST. Brand, cab, transmission and fit-out decide where a tractor lands.

Are tractor prices on listings GST inclusive?

Not always. Listings use drive away, egc, inc GST and exclusive of GST, and some say nothing. A $90,000 plus GST price is $99,000 with GST. Ask the seller to state the GST treatment in writing, and ask your accountant whether you can claim it back.

How much is a used tractor compared with a new one?

In one Queensland yard, used 110 to 140 hp tractors with 3,142 to 6,420 hours ask $79,200 to $140,000, against about $100,000 for a new 102 to 130 hp cab tractor. Hours, brand and a loader explain the spread, so compare like with like.

Can I finance a used or private-sale tractor?

Often, yes. Lenders fund new, used, dealer and private purchases, but older, high-hour or thin-resale machines may need a deposit or a shorter term, and private sales add an inspection. Approval depends on the borrower, the security and the machine, and finance is subject to lender assessment.

Do I need a deposit to finance a tractor?

Not always. Some deals fund the full invoice, especially with property security, while others ask for a deposit when the borrower has no property, a young ABN or an older machine. Maker and dealer offers often need one. Lender assessment decides.
