Finance question
Can I finance a Volvo truck for my business?
Yes. A Volvo is usually funded with a chattel mortgage, where you own the truck and the lender holds security over it. Used asking prices we found run from $25,000 ex GST for a 2005 FM12 to $239,000 inc GST for a 2022 FH600, and lenders get cautious as kilometres climb, subject to lender assessment.

The short answer
Mainstream brand, but kilometres change the answer
Volvo does not publish prices in Australia. Every model page sends you to a dealer, so the public evidence is the used market. Our Volvo truck prices guide lists 11 used trucks opened on 22 October 2026, from a 2005 FM12 prime mover at $25,000 ex GST to a 2022 FH600 with 695,383 km at $239,000 inc GST. Kilometres outweigh age: a 2020 FH540 with 1,344,232 km asks $105,888 inc GST, while a 2019 FH540 with 640,035 km and a rebuilt engine asks $219,950.
Lenders like mainstream heavy-duty brands that resell easily, and Volvo prime movers generally fit. They get cautious as kilometres climb. A truck past a million kilometres, or one that will be old by the end of the term, can mean a shorter term, a bigger deposit or fewer lenders, and a 2.17 million km FH700 would be a hard file for many. A dealer sale with a roadworthy and service history is easier than an unregistered auction.
Bodies matter as well. Compactors and water carts are harder to fund because they resell to a narrower market than a prime mover or a hooklift. The price on the ad is rarely the cheque either: GST, registration, inspection and any auction buyer's premium all come on top. Ventas is a broker across 40+ lenders, not a single bank, and there is no upfront fee to you; the lender pays us on settlement.

Deposit or property
Cash, or equity in a home or other property.
Why a Volvo files well
Resale depth
Mainstream heavy brands give valuers comparable sales.
Truck is the security
You own it and the lender holds security over it.
GST comes back
A GST-registered business can usually claim it through its BAS.
A worked example
A used prime mover is advertised at $190,000 ex GST, with GST of $19,000. Inspection, transport, registration, transfer and a first premium plus buffer add $35,000, so the cash needed before GST comes back is $244,000. Truck finance covers $142,500, 75 per cent of the ex GST price, and the $47,500 deposit comes from savings or a property-backed loan. Illustrative only.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I finance a Volvo with over a million kilometres?
Sometimes, but expect conditions. A shorter term, a bigger deposit or fewer lenders is common, and a truck over two million km would be a hard file for many.
Can I finance a Volvo bought at auction?
It is harder than a dealer sale. An auction truck may be unregistered and have no roadworthy, and a buyer's premium adds to the cost. Talk to your broker before you bid.
How much deposit for a Volvo prime mover?
It depends on the lender, age and kilometres. Our guide's example uses a 25 per cent deposit on the ex GST price, with extra cash for GST, registration and costs.
Can I finance a Volvo electric truck?
Possibly. Volvo publishes no prices for its electric range, so get a written quote covering batteries, charger and warranty, and ask your broker about lender appetite.
