What a Case IH tractor costs in Australia
Case IH publishes no Australian price list. Live used listings run from $46,363 ex GST for a 2016 Farmall 95C to $550,000 ex GST for a 2019 Steiger 500, with a 2020 Magnum 340 at $360,000. Horsepower, hours, tracks and guidance move the price most, and new tractors are priced by dealer quote.
A Case IH tractor can cost $46,000 or $550,000 used, and both are the same brand. The spread comes from the series: a Farmall utility tractor, a mid-range Puma, a Magnum row crop, or an articulated Steiger or tracked Quadtrac. Then hours, age, guidance, tracks and loader move the price again. Case IH does not publish prices in Australia, so this guide uses 13 used tractors on live listings, the maker's own range and finance pages, and the sales figures that show where the market sits. It ends with how a purchase is funded.
What Case IH tractors cost
Case IH Australia publishes no tractor price list. Its Maxxum and Magnum pages, accessed 4 November 2026, show models and a finance offer but no prices, and point you to a dealer quote. The only dated, public numbers are dealer and owner asking prices. This table surveys 13 used tractors on Machines4U on 4 November 2026, from the Farmall utility models to the Steiger and Quadtrac, across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. We opened each listing and copy its fields. Figures are the seller's asking prices, indicative market data and not Ventas offers. Where a field is missing the table says Not disclosed. We found no priced listing in Tasmania, the Northern Territory or the ACT, and no new Case IH tractor with a price we could verify, so we publish none. We also had no access to Tractorhouse or Machinery Trader listings, which block automated reads, so this is one marketplace and not the whole market.

The Magnum 280 appears twice, in South Australia and Queensland, because we found two with similar specs. Both are 2016 to 2017 powershift tractors. One asks $280,000 ex GST with hours not shown, the other $231,818 ex GST with 5,845 hours, so the hours and the guidance fitted account for a good part of the gap. The Machines4U pages show ex GST and inc GST side by side, and the difference is 10 per cent, so compare every tractor on the same basis.
Price against horsepower
Case IH sells in six steps. The Australian site lists the Maxxum at 112 to 150 hp and the Magnum at 200 to 400 hp, with models from the 250 to the 405 and a choice of PowerDrive (19 speed full powershift) or CVT. The Farmall sits below the Maxxum, the Puma and Optum sit between them and the Magnum, and the Steiger and Quadtrac are the articulated and tracked machines at the top. Horsepower sets the band. The table divides each listing's asking price ex GST by its listed horsepower (our arithmetic), using the figure in the listing, so it is a rough guide and not a valuation.
| Tractor | Power | Asking price ex GST | Price per hp (our arithmetic) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Farmall 75C, 2023 | 75 hp (listed) | $60,000 | $800 |
| Maxxum 125, 2012 | 125 hp (listed) | $50,000 | $400 |
| Puma 165, 2008 | 165 hp (listed) | $94,000 | $570 |
| Puma 195, 2008 | 195 hp (listed) | $100,000 | $513 |
| Magnum 280, 2016 | 279 hp (listed) | $280,000 | $1,004 |
| Magnum 340, 2020 | 340 hp (listed) | $360,000 | $1,059 |
| Steiger 435, 2010 | about 435 hp (listed) | $150,000 | $345 |
| Steiger 500, 2019 | up to 550 hp (listed) | $550,000 | $1,000 |
Two things show up. The big wheeled and tracked machines hold their value per horsepower far better than the 2008 to 2012 mid-range tractors: a 2019 Steiger 500 with 1,662 hours asks about $1,000 per hp, while a 2010 Steiger 435 with 7,055 hours asks about $345. Age and hours do that, not the badge. And the small Farmall 75C at $800 per hp is a near-new tractor with a loader and slasher on a resort island, which shows that the lower end can price like a new machine when the hours are low.
What moves the price
Six things move a Case IH price more than the model number does.
- Hours and age. The 2020 Magnum 340 at 870 hours asks $360,000 ex GST. A 2017 Magnum 380 Rowtrac at 5,269 hours asks $240,000. One listing shows its hours two ways (the Magnum 380 header says 5,369), so ask for a photo of the meter.
- Transmission. The Australian Magnum range comes as full powershift or CVT. Our survey has too few like-for-like pairs to put a dollar value on CVT, so ask the dealer what the same model costs with each.
- Tracks or wheels. The 2017 STX 500Q Quadtrac at 4,600 hours asks $340,000. Tracks are a wear item, so ask when they were last replaced. The Magnum 380 Rowtrac listing says new tracks are fitted.
- Guidance. Several cropping tractors carry an AFS Pro 700 screen or a Trimble receiver. Graziers rarely need it and cropping buyers pay for it, so check what is in the price.
- Duals, weights and remotes. Rear duals, a weight pack and six remotes appear on the larger tractors and add to the price.
- Loader. The Puma 165 includes a Vision Lift 60 loader and the Farmall 75C a Prime-Lift 30. A loader adds real money to a used utility tractor.
On the new side, Case IH Australia advertises finance offers on its special offers page, accessed 4 November 2026. The footnotes were not visible to us, and no end date is shown on the page, so read the full terms with a dealer.
| Series (Case IH Australia offers page) | Rate as advertised | Term |
|---|---|---|
| Steiger | 3.45% p.a. | 3 years |
| Magnum | 1.99% p.a. | 4 years |
| Optum (and Farmlift telehandlers) | 1.99% p.a. | 3 years |
The page lists no offer on the Farmall, Maxxum, Puma or Quadtrac. A low advertised rate can sit alongside a firm sticker price, so compare the total cost and the trade-in value, not the rate alone.
How Case IH sits in the market
Case IH is a broadacre brand, and the survey lines up with that: more than half the tractors above are Magnum, Optum or Steiger class, and most carry guidance. The buyers are grain and cotton growers who need a big tractor for tillage and seeding, mixed farmers running a Puma or Maxxum for hay and general work, and contractors who put hours on a machine quickly. The Farmall and Maxxum class with a loader suits hay operators and smaller farms.
Against the brands next to it, the closest like-for-like in our surveys is a 2018 New Holland T7.260 with 2,740 hours at $215,000 ex GST and a 2018 T7.315 HD with 5,089 hours at $220,000, against Case IH Magnums at $231,818 to $280,000 and a 2020 Magnum 340 at $360,000. A 2019 New Holland T9.615 SmartTrax with 3,244 hours asks $460,000, against the 2017 STX 500Q at $340,000. Years, hours and specification differ, so read that as a sense of the bands, not a ranking. See our New Holland prices guide for those listings and the tractor prices by horsepower guide for a wider brand comparison.
The market is soft. The Tractor and Machinery Association reported on 8 September 2026 that sales were down 12 per cent year to date, with the 100 to 200 hp class down 13.0 per cent and 200 hp plus down 9.4 per cent. Maquinac, reporting the same body, puts 2025 at 9,521 new tractors, down 7.0 per cent on 10,242 in 2024. John Deere held 19.2 per cent and Massey Ferguson 15.4 per cent in 2024. The article gives no Case IH share and we do not publish one. A soft market gives buyers room to negotiate on dealer stock, but inspect the machine first.
Financing a Case IH tractor purchase
Tractors are usually fundable because they are mobile, identifiable and resell, but lenders price age and hours. Equipment finance is secured on the tractor, with a deposit or trade-in and a term that usually shortens as the machine gets older. A lender will often want recent tax returns or financials, and for a low-hour near-new machine may accept a smaller deposit than for a 7,000 hour tractor. Lender appetite for older high-hour machines is thinner: lenders often cap the machine's age at the end of the term, and may want more deposit or a shorter term. Ventas is a finance broker, not a lender, so we do not quote rates here. They change with the lender, the machine and the file.
Illustrative only, subject to lender assessment. A used 2019 Magnum class tractor at $300,000 ex GST (our example, not a listing):
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Tractor, ex GST | $300,000 |
| GST at 10 per cent | $30,000 |
| Price inc GST | $330,000 |
| Freight, pre-delivery inspection and registration of any security | $3,500 |
| Total cash needed, before any GST credit | $333,500 |
And how it is typically funded across lender types:
| Funding layer | Amount | What it covers | Secured on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Equipment finance (chattel mortgage) | $240,000 | Most of the tractor, ex GST price | The tractor itself |
| Deposit or trade-in of an older tractor | $60,000 | Rest of the ex GST price | Your cash or the trade-in |
| Your funds, or a short GST bridge | $33,500 | GST, freight and costs | Cash, or an overdraft if you have one |
| Total | $333,500 |
This example is 80 per cent of the ex GST price. A lender may finance a different share, and may include or exclude the GST, so confirm the structure with the lender. Whether you can claim the GST back, and how the tractor is treated for tax, depends on your registration and how you use it, so ask your accountant.
What makes a tractor deal fundable:
- The machine. A make, model, year and hours the lender can value, with the serial number and a quote or listing.
- The business. Two years of financials or tax returns and BAS that show the farm can carry the repayment through a poor season.
- Deposit or trade-in. More equity helps on older or high-hour machines.
- Who sells it. A dealer sale is simpler than a private one, which needs a clear title check.
- Existing debt. Other machinery finance and a farm mortgage affect how much a lender will add.
To get a number from Ventas, send the make, model, year, hours and price with the GST wording, the seller, and your ABN and financials. Frequently asked questions
How much does a Case IH tractor cost in Australia?
Case IH publishes no Australian price list. Used asking prices we found run from $46,363 ex GST for a 2016 Farmall 95C to $550,000 ex GST for a 2019 Steiger 500, with a 2020 Magnum 340 at $360,000. New prices come by dealer quote.
How much is a used Case IH Magnum?
On 4 November 2026 we found a 2017 Magnum 280 with 5,845 hours at $231,818 ex GST, a 2016 Magnum 280 at $280,000 ex GST, a 2017 Magnum 380 Rowtrac at $240,000 and a 2020 Magnum 340 with 870 hours at $360,000. All are ex GST asking prices.
Is a Case IH Puma or Maxxum cheaper than a Magnum?
Yes. The Puma and Maxxum are smaller tractors. A 2012 Maxxum 125 asks $50,000 ex GST and 2008 Pumas ask $94,000 to $100,000, while used Magnums in our survey start at $231,818. Age and hours explain much of the gap, so compare like for like.
How does Case IH compare with John Deere and New Holland on price?
The listings we surveyed put a 2018 New Holland T7.260 at $215,000 ex GST, against Case IH Magnums at $231,818 to $280,000. Years and hours differ, so these are bands and not a ranking. Compare the same horsepower, hours, guidance and GST wording.
Can I finance a used Case IH tractor?
Often yes, through equipment finance secured on the tractor. Lenders look at the machine's age and hours, your financials and the deposit. Older high-hour machines are harder to fund. Finance is subject to lender assessment, and Ventas is a broker, not a lender.
