What a Mack truck costs in Australia, new and used

Ventas Asset Lending  |  Reviewed by Caleb Morehu  |  Updated 25 October 2026

Used Mack trucks are listed in Australia from $77,000 including GST for a 2016 Granite with 707,000 km to $351,680 for a 2023 Super-Liner, and a 2022 Anthem with 45,668 km asks $285,000 including GST. Mack publishes no prices and dealers quote new trucks to spec. Kilometres, engine, rated tonnage and body drive the spread.

Mack does not publish prices. Its Australian model pages show no prices and a dealer lists a new Super-Liner as price on application, so the public evidence is the used market. This guide sets out 14 priced Mack listings across five states, opened on 22 October 2026, then the model range, what moves the price, what an auction paid, the costs on top, and how a prime mover purchase is funded. Figures are sellers' asking prices, indicative market data and not Ventas offers.

What Mack trucks are listed for

If you are weighing brands, read our Kenworth prices guide alongside this one. The table lists 14 used Mack trucks from Machines4U, Truck Dealers Australia and a Pickles Auctions Perth dealer listing on OnlyAg, opened on 22 October 2026. Each price is shown on the basis the seller used, so convert to one GST basis before comparing. Kilometres are as displayed.

Four things stand out.

Three listings contradict themselves. The 2008 Super-Liner shows Townsville in the address and a NSW town in the text, the Townsville combination shows two odometer figures, and the Inverell Metro-Liner shows an ex GST price while its text says the price includes GST. Confirm each point in writing before you pay a deposit.

Anthem, Trident, Super-Liner and Titan compared

Mack Australia's own pages list four current models, and the figures below come from them. The Granite and Metro-Liner do not appear on the Mack model or vocational pages that we read, but they fill used stock and auctions.

Pickles titles pair each name with a code: CLXT for Super-Liner, CMHR for Trident, CMMT or CMMR for Granite and CSMR for Metro-Liner. The 2017 and 2019 Super-Liners in this guide carry the 16 litre MP10, and the current Super-Liner uses the MP11. Mack's January 2021 line-up reveal introduced the locally built Anthem, with the 13 litre MP8 at 435 to 535 hp.

What moves the price of a Mack

New trucks and what an auction paid

Mack Australia's model pages show no prices. Its buy page lists a 2025-plated offer on the Anthem, Trident, Super-Liner and Titan with a three-year Premium service contract, again without a price. Truck Centre WA in Forrestfield lists two new 2025 Super-Liners with the MP11 at 780 hp as "brand new to order now", price on application. A new Mack is quoted to spec, so a number needs a dealer.

The nearest public evidence is near-new stock: the 2022 Anthem at $285,000 inc GST and the 2023 Super-Liner at $351,680. Auction results run lower. Grays sold a 2017 Super-Liner CLXT in a no reserve Victorian prime mover sale on 5 June 2024 for $66,300 ex GST, after 331 bids. It had 1,156,551 km, a Mack MP10-600, an automatic and no warranty listed. Before the buyer's premium, that is about a third of the $200,000 ex GST a Queensland dealer asks for a 2017 Super-Liner with a 130 tonne rating. The trucks are not identical and the dealer listing shows no kilometres, but the gap is why you should treat an asking price as the start of a negotiation, not a valuation.

What you pay on top of the price

The price on the ad is rarely the cheque.

CostWhat it isFigure
GSTListings mix ex GST and inc GST. Grays adds GST to the final bid and to the buyer's premium10 per cent. A GST-registered business can usually claim it back through its BAS, so ask your accountant

RegistrationCharged by combination and axles. Inspection fees and stamp duty are separateNSW, three axles: $5,524 for a short combination prime mover, $13,897 for a multi-combination prime mover, from 1 August 2025, plus a 10 per cent processing surcharge on part of the charge
Inspection and complianceRoadworthy, rego, engine and transmission checksNot published. Ask the seller what is included

The registration row shows why the combination matters: in NSW a multi-combination prime mover is charged about two and a half times a short combination one (our arithmetic). A prime mover also needs a trailer, and our semi trailer cost guide prices those. For a tipper body on a Trident, see the tipper truck cost guide.

Financing a Mack truck

Ventas is a finance broker, not a lender, so we do not quote rates here. A Mack is usually funded with a chattel mortgage, where you own the truck and the lender holds security over it, through a bank, a non-bank lender or the dealer's lender. Business-purpose credit is generally outside consumer credit rules, as ASIC explains.

Lenders generally support heavy-duty brands with a deep resale market, but they are cautious on very high kilometres. A truck past a million kilometres, or one that will be old by the end of the term, can mean a shorter term, a bigger deposit or fewer lenders willing to look. Dealer sales with an invoice and compliance in order are easier to fund than auction or private sales, and some lenders will say no to a very old truck.

Illustrative only, subject to lender assessment. A used prime mover advertised at $165,000 ex GST (not one of the listings above):

ItemAmount
Truck price ex GST$165,000
GST$16,500
Inspection and transport (our allowance)$3,500
Registration, transfer and any state duty (our allowance, varies by state)$8,000
First insurance premium and working capital buffer (our allowance)$20,000
Total cash needed before the GST comes back$213,000

And how it is typically funded across lender types:

Funding layerAmountWhat it coversSecured on
Truck finance, such as a chattel mortgage$132,00080 per cent of the ex GST priceThe truck
Your deposit: savings, or a property-backed loan$33,000The other 20 per cent of the priceCash, or your home or other property
GST$16,500Paid at purchase unless the lender funds it, then claimed back through the BAS if you are registeredCash or short-term funding
Costs and working capital$31,500Inspection, registration, insurance and a bufferCash
Total$213,000

Debt here is about 62 per cent of the cash needed (our arithmetic). A property-backed loan can cover the deposit and costs, with the risk that your property is on the line if the freight work stops. Lenders look for an ABN and GST registration of some age, recent BAS and bank statements, work lined up behind the truck, the VIN, kilometres and service history, and a deposit or property.

To get a number from Ventas, send the make, model, year and kilometres, the price and whether it is ex or inc GST, whether the seller is a dealer, a private seller or an auction, your ABN and GST start dates, and whether you own property. Start at truck finance or prime mover finance, or test a repayment on the truck finance calculator. Finance is subject to lender assessment and approval.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Mack truck cost in Australia?

Mack publishes no prices and dealers quote new trucks to spec. Used listings opened on 22 October 2026 ran from $77,000 inc GST for a 2016 Granite to $351,680 for a 2023 Super-Liner. A 2022 Anthem with 45,668 km asked $285,000 inc GST. Kilometres, engine, rated tonnage and body drive the spread.

How much is a Mack Anthem?

The one Anthem we found with a price was a 2022 sleeper in South Australia with 45,668 km, at $259,091 ex GST ($285,000 inc GST). Mack Australia's pages show no price for new Anthems. The Anthem uses the 13 litre MP8 at 435, 500 or 535 hp and is rated 50 to 70 tonnes GCM, up to 110 on application.

How much does a used Mack Super-Liner cost?

Listings we opened ran from $122,727 ex GST for a 2005 day cab with 923,000 km (our arithmetic from $135,000 inc GST) to $351,680 for a 2023 truck. A 2019 truck with 1,058,045 km asked $179,000 inc GST. A 2017 truck with 1,156,551 km sold at auction in June 2024 for $66,300 ex GST.

Is there a Mack Trident 480?

Mack Australia's current Trident is rated 500 or 535 hp from the MP8. Three Tridents in this guide show 535 hp, and a 2017 combination shows an MP8 500 listed at 475 hp. We found no 480 hp listing. If an ad says 480, ask for a photo of the engine plate and the build details.

Can I finance a used Mack with over a million kilometres?

Sometimes. Lenders look at the truck's age at the end of the term, its kilometres and the work behind it, and may offer a shorter term or ask for a deposit. Dealer sales are easier to fund than auction or private sales. Approval is subject to lender assessment.
